At a time when many youngsters switch careers to pursue an MBA in search of a better life, a 34-year-old man from Maharashtra has dared to give up his dream job and the road less travelled.
Dhruv Dholakia, an MBA and a former investment banker, is on a mission to cover all 29 states of the country on his Bullet in 14 months and 14 days. After covering 12 states since embarking on the journey on September 29 last year, Dhruv has now reached Guwahati.
"I was eight when I had to move to Nigeria from Mumbai, as my father was posted there. We would take stopovers in different countries on our way back home every year. That is where my love for travelling started," Dhruv, who used to earn Rs 2 lakh per month, said.
Dhruv, whose blog "On a Bullet Yatra" already has about 38,000 followers on Facebook and close to 2,000 from the northeast alone, will be covering all the seven states in the region over the next 30 days. "Northeast is special. There's so much potential here in terms of the adventure on offer. Sadly, this is among the least explored places in the country. Over the next month, I'm looking forward to going deep into the region before moving to Sikkim."
On the highs and lows of his journey so far, he said, "It has been a journey of extremes. The hotel room I was staying in at Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh was raided by police at midnight. I had to explain who I am and what I was doing."
"I had food with thousands of underprivileged people at Tirupati. Then again I had lunch with Telugu actress Lakshmi Manchu, the daughter of legendary Mohan Babu. My meeting with Sadhguru in Tirupati was particularly special. This is life!"
Signing off, Dhruv, who will travel from Assam to Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Meghalaya over the next 30 days, said, "I want to present a picture of the country to the people here. There are many misconceptions about the rest of the country in the minds of the people here and vice-versa. I will be very happy if I can make some difference."
